Visus Dictionary
Domain citation rate
Domain citation rate is the percentage of sampled AI answers that include a link to your website domain.
Why it matters
A mention without a link still builds awareness; a citation sends traffic and gives assistants a verifiable source.
How Visus measures it
Visibility Monitor citation checks record cited URLs per query and compute how many answers linked your domain.
Example
Three of five answers link acme.com → 60% domain citation rate for that batch.
Common misconception
Links to third-party directories or Wikipedia are not your domain citation—even if they mention you.

FAQ
- How is domain citation rate different from mention rate?
Mention rate counts answers that name your brand in text; domain citation rate counts answers that actually link your website. You can be mentioned without being cited, and occasionally cited without a prominent name—so Visus reports them separately.
- What counts as a citation to my domain?
A link whose host matches your registered domain (including www and common subdomains). Links to your Google Business Profile, a directory listing, or a social profile are useful signals but do not count toward your domain citation rate.
- What is a healthy domain citation rate?
It is category-dependent and small-sample by design, so treat it as a trend rather than a fixed target. A rate that climbs from 0% after you add extractable facts and proof is the signal that matters more than any single number.
