Visus Dictionary

AI visibility

AI visibility is the probability that a brand, product, or location appears inside AI-generated answers when people ask commercially relevant questions—not the same as ranking in traditional search results.

Why it matters

More buyers use ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and similar tools for recommendations. If assistants skip your brand, you can lose consideration even when your Google rankings look healthy.

How Visus measures it

Visus scores on-page answer-readiness (0–100) on a URL you submit, then optional Pro monthly checks sample whether AI answers mention you, link your site, and align with your page.

Benchmark insight

In Visus’s 2026 benchmark of 57 completed public brand homepages, scores ranged from 8 to 95; international brands averaged 46.2/100 vs 64.6 for Liverpool local sites.

Example

A Liverpool plumber with strong Google Maps presence might still score low on AI visibility if the homepage never states service area, hours, and proof in quoteable sentences.

Common misconception

AI visibility is not a guarantee that any assistant will recommend you tomorrow; it measures signals and sampled answers, not a contract with OpenAI or Google.
